Does The Position Of The Sun Affect The Direction Of Construction? π§ π¦Ίπ – Part One
Weβve all heard the theories, some are true, while others are straight-up cooked by wise men chilling in a jaba joint in Juja.
So how does construction relate to the direction of the sun? Does it really have a big effect? And does this vary across residential buildings, religious buildings, industries, and warehouses? Also, when did it even become a factor in construction?
Yes, the direction of the sun is a huge factor to consider when building any structure, for a number of reasons.
- Heat gain
In hot areas like Nairobi or Magadi, too much direct sunlight leads to overheating.
Meanwhile, our bear-taming, vodka-loving friends in Russia actually prefer as much sunlight as they can get for natural heating.
So how does this logic work?
Ideally, you want to enjoy your breakfast in your sitting room or dining room with the morning sun ahead of you. In the evening, the sun should be hitting your bedroom walls so they can retain some of that warmth at night (or at least a bit of it).
And yes, dear bachelors, architects and contractors do have you in mind as you go through those lonely, cold nights π.
